Message from the Chair

It is truely an honor to be the NISHA chairman.  My goal and the boards goal is to serve our members.  The NISHA organization has been passed to me in top condition, thanks to the leadership by our dear friend Paul Hurley.  We will miss him.

We have accomplished a lot in 2013.  The NISHA conference in Minneapolis was great.  I continue to learn about practices that I use in improve industrial safety performance at my plant  The INPO Industrial Safety Conference, largely supported by NISHA members was a success!  Working with INPO will be a benefit to all organizations.

I am appreciative of our NISHA board, including two new members, Trent and Nicole.  They inspire me and it is a pleasure to work with such passionate and dedicated people.

As a safety organization, I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished in 2013:

  • Two-year business plan in place and on track.
  • Dedicated NISHA website to share safety-related information amongst ourselves.
  • Fantastic conference hosted by Xcel in Minneapolis.
  • CNO support to NISHA.
  • Involvement and relationship with INPO and excellent level of involvement at INPO Industrial Safety Managers Meeting.

With that being said, let’s take a look at what’s in store for 2014:

  • Methods to improve the Q&A forum.  A powerfull resourse that should be easy to use by all
  • Development of a best practices guide
  • Website improvements
  • 2014 NISHA Conference: the host and location are to be determined. If you’re interested in hosting this year’s conference, contact Doug Mills.

Along with the other Board Members, I look forward to what 2014 brings, and to your continued support to make industrial safety better across the nuclear power generation industry.

On behalf of the NISHA Board, I would like to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a happy and prosperous new year.

Steve Nowak
